AM Consultancy wins contract for innovative maritime service
AM Consultancy recently won a contract to provide the on-board IT network for a state of the art marine research vessel.
The Stril Explorer is a newly built 76-metre multi-purpose support vessel chartered by the Aberdeen based marine and subsea services contractor SeaHold GEOSHIPS. Among the requirements necessary for the new vessel was a modern IT network, capable of supporting multiple services including the management of remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs).
Through an already well-established relationship with GEOSHIPS, Jersey based AM Consultancy was awarded the contract of installing the IT network on board the vessel.
Having previously supplied IT services to a number of marine businesses, AM Consultancy were able to understand the requirements of installing and maintaining IT networks on board ships. In particular, there was a requirement to distribute real-time video images around the ship from ROVs and also back to shore. Via the satellite link used to send the images back, AM Consultancy are also able to provide remote network configuration and management support from Jersey – regardless of where the ship is in the world.
Speaking on behalf of AM Consultancy, MD Adrien Merhet said 'We were delighted to be chosen to deliver this on-board network. Providing effective IT services at sea is always a challenge, but an enjoyable one to overcome. I also think that given Jersey's interest in developing registry facilities for the maritime industry, there is no reason why local IT companies can't provide other services as well.'
